À Londres en 1914, un vieux comique de vaudeville, persuadé qu'il ne fait plus rire personne, sauve du suicide une jeune ballerine et lui redonne goût à la vie. Le matériel additionnel contient une galerie de photos et d'affiches, une introduction à Chaplin par son biographe David Robinson, un documentaire intitulé "Chaplin aujourd'hui", la bande sonore musicale intégrale, deux extraits du roman original et des films familiaux de la famille Chaplin.
Chaplin's final American film tells the story of a fading music hall comedian's effort to help a despondent ballet dancer learn both to walk and feel confident about life again. The highlight of the film is the classic duet with Chaplin's only real artistic film comedy rival, Buster Keaton.
