Suzanne Grossmann (1937-2010) was born in Basel, Switzerland, and raised in Brazil, the United States, and Canada. She studied in Paris and Mexico, received a degree from McGill University and was a member of the National Theatre School of Canada’s first graduating class in 1963 studying under legendary director / educator Michel Saint-Denis. She was an actress and author of works commissioned by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Stratford Festival of Canada, the Shaw Festival, Theatre London, New York’s Chelsea Theatre Center, Seattle Repertory, San Diego’s Old Globe, and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Her early successful career as an actress on the stage and in television gave way to decades of work as a writer of original work’s, a translator, as well as a skillful adapter of other media for television and the stage.
Suzanne Grossmann (1937-2010) est née à Bâle, en Suisse, et a passé sa jeunesse au Brésil, au Canada et aux États-Unis. Elle fit des études à Paris et au Mexique, obtint un diplôme de l’Université McGill, et fut diplômée de la première cohorte en interprétation anglaise de l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada (1963) où elle étudia avec le pédagogue et metteur en scène légendaire Michel Saint-Denis. Elle fut actrice et auteur(e) d’oeuvres commanditées par la Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, le Stratford Festival, le Shaw Festival, le Theatre London, le Chelsea Theater Center de New York, le Seattle Repertory Theater, le Old Globe de San Diego, et le Mark Taper Forum de Los Angeles. Après une première carrière comme comédienne au théâtre et à la télévision, Suzanne Grossmann concentra ensuite ses énergies dans l’écriture d’œuvres originales et la traduction, mais également, et avec beaucoup d’habilité, dans l’adaptation pour la télévision et le théâtre d’œuvres produites dans d’autres média.
