Summary: Set in Vienna during the 1740's, the opera portrays an affair between the young Octavian and the married Marschallin. Baron Ochs arrives to seek the help of the Marschallin in marrying the wealthy Sophie. Octavian falls in love with Sophie and the Marschallin helps her lover win Sophie, instead of the Baron.
